Over 70 Years Serving the Central Valley
San Joaquin Glass Company was founded in February 1947 by Harvey McKenry, Jack Kilner, and Joe Strowsnider. Originally located at 618 N Street in Downtown Fresno, the company relocated to its current location in November 1965 to make way for the construction of the Fresno Convention Center. Mr. Strowsnider retired in the early 1950s, followed by Mr. Kilner in the early 1970s. In 1976, Robert Starr and Steve Salcedo joined Harvey McKenry as partners, marking a new chapter in the company’s growth. Two years later, in 1978, a second location was opened in Merced. This branch was eventually sold to two employees and became an independent company.
In 1979, Steve and Bob launched Insulated Glass of Fresno near the Fresno Airport—one of the first operations in the region to manufacture insulated glass units. This venture later transitioned into what is now San Joaquin Glass. In 1980, following Mr. McKenry’s retirement, Steve Salcedo and Bob Starr became the sole owners of the company.

A True Family Business
San Joaquin Glass truly embraced its family-operated roots when Steve’s wife, Wanda, and their children—Anna, Mary, and Anthony—began helping in the office and warehouse during summer vacations. In 2004, Bob Starr retired, and the following year, Anthony joined the company full-time after graduating from Fresno State. Shortly thereafter, Anna Salcedo Hook began working part-time, taking on responsibilities in human resources and contract administration. In 2011, the family business expanded once again with the addition of Anthony’s wife, Lindsay Follett Salcedo. Today, the tradition continues as even the grandchildren contribute—working in the warehouse or office during school vacations—further strengthening the legacy of family involvement that defines San Joaquin Glass.
